A New World

Jasmine decided to go down to the lake. She just got a letter from her parents and one from her sister. While she was happy being at Hogwarts, she missed her family. Jasmine pictures her sister sitting on Jasmine's bed, crying because the only friends she had left were their house-elves. She sighed. She had yet to make a friend. She was way to shy to say anything to anybody. Books became her friends. Jasmine glanced down at the letters. She sent a letter back to her family, telling them how good it was being at Hogwarts. To her sister she told her about the castle and its ghosts. Jasmine started at the lake, wondering if she would ever make a friend.

Ginny had come back to the lake. She liked going to the lake as it was calm and quiet. Walking towards it, she noticed a figure near the lake. Nervously, she gripped her notebook tighter and approached. She noticed he girl was staring at the lake. "Hello. Can I join you?" She asked the girl.

Lyra walked down to the lake and noticed Ginny and another girl who looked like a first year too. She walked over and said "Hi Ginny." Turning to the other girl, she said "Hi, I'm Lyra, nice to meet you."

Jasmine was about to introduce herself to the girl when she heard another voice. She looked over to see another girl. She looked to be a younger year a first or second at most. She smiled and "Hi. Nice to meet you. My name is Jasmine". She wasn't one to start conversations so Jasmine was glad that the other girl, Lyra, said something first.

Ginny nods. "As Lyra said, I'm Ginny." She said, to Jasmine. She looked at the lake, which was very calm and peaceful. Ginny didn't really talk with people much, so she didn't know how to start a conversation. "Have any of you guys ever seen the squid?" She asked them.

Jasmine heard of the squid. That's one of the reasons she came down here. To see if she could see it. 'Wonder if its a boy or girl' she thought. "I never seen it although this was the first time I ever came here. An older year might have seen it through" said Jasmine.

"Well, I haven't too, it'll show itself one day I suppose... " Lyra remarked. "Wonder what the giant squid eats... If it was just fish it'd need an awfully large amount though." She makes a mental note to look it up in her free time.

Ginny nods. "I've seen it." She said. "Dmitri said it's very moody." She added.

Jasmine just started at Ginny. "How can you tell if the squid is moody?" she asked. Sure you can tell if a cat or dog is moody, but a squid.

Ginny shrugged. "I dunno. Maybe it will hold his tentacles differently?" She said.

Jasmine just shook her head. She went back to staring out at the lake. Her thoughts went to her sister. What was she doing right now? Was she still crying about her leaving? Jasmine tried to get her mind of her sister. She would only end up in tears. She wondered if the girls next to her had sisters or brothers. "So do either of you have brothers or sisters? I miss my sister terribly" said Jasmine, knowing her curiosity got the better of her as usual.

Ginny nods. "I have two little brothers." She said.

Jasmine smiled. She always wanted a brother. She was happy with her sister through. Her smile turned to a frown, wondering if her sister was ok. Jasmine was overprotective of her. "I always wanted a brother. How old are they? My sister is six. We are best friends and miss each other very much. This is the first time the two of us were separated. I guess I'm a little overprotective of her" said Jasmine.

Ginny looked at her smiling. "They are 5, turning 6 in a few days." She said, realizing she hadn't found any presents yet for them. She nods. She has always wanted a sister."I guess siblings are always protective of other siblings, especially younger ones." She said.

Jasmine smiled. "Yeah I guess we are. Nina and I have been close since she was born through. Its like the two of us could read each others thought's, we're that close. I really miss her through" said Jasmine. She knew she would make friends and be able to write to Nina about everything that happens. She smiled at the thought.

Ginny smiled. She liked Jasmine. She seemed nice, and caring. "I think, that it's nice that you have a good relationship with your sister." She said.

"I don't have any siblings, the closest I have are cousins, and I don'tse them often," Lyra said. She wondered what having siblings was like.
